Interpreting the Literably Fluency Data Export and Term Definitions Follow
Overview: the below table includes definitions for the different columns found in the Literably Fluency data export.
This Help Center article includes directions on how to download the data export from your dashboard. Click here to see a sample data export.
Please note:
- A select few districts use customized definitions for instructional level, estimated instructional level, estimated independent level, etc. If you work at one of these districts, some of the below definitions below may not apply. If you’re wondering whether your district has customized dashboard features, please reach out to support@literably.com.
- Relevant if you're uploading Literably data into an external system such as a data warehouse (or SIS): Districts will often upload the data in the "Estimated Instructional Level" column of the data export to their data warehouse instead of (or in addition to) the "Instructional Level" column. This is because the "Estimated Instructional Level" matches perfectly with the level that is displayed on teachers' Literably dashboards, making it easier for teachers to compare the level on their dashboard with the level in your data warehouse.
- Data exports can be pulled containing data from the preceding 48 months (4 years).
Column Title | Description |
Date | The date and time of the assessment |
Teacher |
The teacher associated with the assessment If a student is associated with multiple teachers in Clever, Literably will associate the student with the teacher who has the highest Literably ID number (which is somewhat arbitrary) for all assessments prior to November 22, 2021. If a student is associated with one primary teacher and one section (but perhaps multiple co-teachers) in Clever, Literably will associate the student with the primary teacher for all assessments taken after November 22, 2021. |

Instructional Level |
Student's instructional reading level, defined as the highest level at which the student has scored >=90% accuracy and >=60% comprehension. If the student has not scored >=90% accuracy and >=60% comprehension at any level, then we define it as one level below the lowest level at which they've assessed. (More details here) The level listed in this column should match the level listed next to "Last Confirmed Instructional Level" on a student's assessment history page. If your district uses grade levels, this will contain a numeric value. |
Estimated Instructional Level |
If the Instructional Level is confirmed, this column is equal to "Instructional Level." The level listed in this column should match what is under the "Instr Level" column of the teacher dashboard. If your district uses grade levels, this will contain a numeric value. |
Instructional Level Confirmed | TRUE if the student has confirmed his/her instructional level (by scoring 90-94% accuracy and >=60% comprehension). FALSE if the student has not confirmed his/her instructional level, because (s)he has not yet passed a level OR because (s)he read with >=95% accuracy and >=60% comprehension, and she hasn't yet read at a higher level. |
Has Passed a Level | TRUE if the student has scored >=90% accuracy and >=60% comprehension on at least one level. |
Instructional Level Category | Achievement category of estimated instructional level (does not meet, approaches, meets, exceeds as 1 through 4), detailed on our Expectations for Instructional Reading Levels |
Estimated Independent Level
|
A student's estimated independent level is defined as the highest level at which the student has scored >=95% accuracy and =>60% comprehension. This information is shown on the Literably dashboard under the "Ind Level" column. Please note:
