Understanding the Graded ORF Assessment

From your teacher dashboard, clicking on the title of a graded assessment will allow you to view more details about that assessment.  Each graded Oral Reading Fluency assessment consists of the running record, the multiple choice responses, and the retell.

Running Record 

Review the running record to understand the student's oral reading.

1. Navigation Buttons

• Assessment History: Returns you to the student's Assessment History page.  
• Print: Allows you to print the graded assessment history.  
• Secret Access Link: Clicking this button generates a unique URL that allows others to view the student's assessment history page, even if they do not have a Literably account. This might be a helpful way to share a student's assessment data with parents or colleagues. More details about this button can be found here. 

2. Recording Playback Bar

• Literably will save and allow you to play back a student's entire recording. 
• Clicking on the 3 dots to the right of the playback bar will allow you to download the audio file.

3. Time Stamp

• The date and time indicate the time that the student completed the assessment. 
• Note: the time is based on the district's timezone.  If Literably does not have your district's timezone information, the times will be in PST.  

4. Results Summary

This section provides a summary of information captured on the teacher dashboard.  

• Rate: Number of words correct per minute (WCPM) the student read
• Accuracy: 51/54 = 51 words read correctly out of 54 words read in one minute
• Self Corrects: The self-correction rate, expressed as a ratio via this calculation:
  • Number of self-corrections : (Number of errors + Number of self-corrections)
  • In the above example, the self-correction rate is 3 : (3+3) = 1 : 2. This means that the student corrects approximately 1 out of every 2 errors.
  • If the self-correction rate is 1:∞, this means that Literably found 0 self-corrections in that particular graded assessment.
• Comprehension score: the number of questions the student answered correctly out of the total number of questions resulting in the percentage

• Graded using these conventions
• Two red back slashes (//) indicates where the grading ends (more details here).

Multiple Choice Comprehension 

Get insight into the student's level of understanding.

• The blue dot next to an answer indicates the answer a student chose.
• The bolded answer is the correct answer.
• Code in parentheses indicates the Common Core Standard the question aligns with.

Retell

• See how well the student can retell the passage. As Literably has not yet found an objective way to score the retell, it is not automatically graded.  Click here for more information.  
• Teachers can score the retell on a simple 1-4 rubric using the Score Retell dropdown. The assigned retell score will be saved. The retell score will not affect the student's level. As always, the teacher can adjust the student's level if (s)he feels it is appropriate.
• Students have the option to type out their response or to record their retell.
